Graceful, average-sized to tall tree with an upright crown and strongly weeping branches. The crown is irregular oval to linear and has a loose and open structure. Occasionally the tree exceeds a height of 20 m with a width of 6 - 8 m. The trunk is bright white and retains that colour when maturing. This trunk is smooth at first, but mature trunks slightly peel. The thin twigs bend gracefully, almost straight, downwards. They are red brown and have warty lenticels. The variably-shaped leaf has a double-toothed margin. The autumn colour is yellow to yellow brown. Hillocks, soil compaction and variable water levels have a negative influence on the health of this birch. The tree is shallow rooting. Does not tolerate sea wind well.
Betula pendula 'Tristis' can eventually reach a height of 15 - 20 m, depending on the site and climate conditions.
Betula pendula 'Tristis' is átlagos and can eventually reach a height of 15 - 20 m, depending on the site and climate conditions.
The leaves of Betula pendula 'Tristis' turn sárga in autumn.
The right time to plant Betula pendula 'Tristis' is during the dormancy period. In Western Europe, Betula pendula 'Tristis' with root balls can generally be planted from mid-November to late April, although this depends strongly on the climatic conditions and the species of tree.
