This is a selection from Germany with a broad upright to oval crown. It is a fast-growing tree with a slightly sinuous trunk. The leaves are broad ovoid and somewhat similar to those of P. tremula, but have a straight leaf base. 'Schubu' tolerates (sea) wind and is suitable for landscape planting. The tree also grows in dry places and has good resistance to rust. However, the tree is susceptible to cancer. Hardiness zone: 5a
