'Tiefurt' is a medium-sized tree that can eventually grow 10-12 m tall. The rather loose, open crown is initially columnar and becomes narrowly oval after a few years. The bark is almost smooth and brownish-grey. The annual twigs are reddish brown and bear dull green, wrinkled leaves. The underside of the leaves is bluish green. In autumn, the leaves turn yellow and orange before falling off. The fragrant white flowers appear in 6-7 cm long clusters and open in April. The individual flowers are only 1-1.5 in size, but the rich flowering makes 'Tiefurt' a spectacular flowering tree for some time in spring. The fruits, as in P. padus, are about 8 mm in size, round and glossy black.
'Tiefurt', also erroneously called 'Schloss Tiefurt', is of East German origin. Because of its narrow crown, the tree is suitable for use in narrow profiles. 'Tiefurt' tolerates moist soil and shade. Salt and sea wind, on the other hand, are not tolerated. Hardiness zone 3.
