Prunus x schmittii is a fast growing tree with a narrow vase-shaped crown and a height of up to 10 m. The bark is remarkably glossy and brownish-red with horizontal stripes (lenticels). The elongated elliptical leaves are dark green and approx. 5 - 8 cm in length. In the autumn the leaves turn a pretty yellow-orange. The tree flowers in April and May, producing fairly unremarkable pale pink flowers. It flowers for scarcely more than a week. P. schmittii can be planted in small streets and gardens. Winter hardiness zone: 5
