A semi-evergreen to full evergreen tree growing to 12 - 15 m. The red crown has gracefully hanging twigs which are thinner than other cultivars of Q. x hispanica. The thick bark is dark grey, deeply grooved and corky. The leaves are dark green on top whereas the underside has grey-white hairs. The blossom and fruit are the same as on the species. During severe cold, the leaves turn brown in the winter, only falling when the new leaves emerge. A healthy, warmth-loving tree which prefers a limy soil. There are a few types in circulation with the same name.
